Harbiye Military Museum, known for its deep-rooted history, is located in Şişli / Harbiye, one of the most central locations of Istanbul. It hosts hundreds of organizations every year.
The Harbiye Museum’s building was first constructed in 1841 as the Military Academy. From 1862 to 1936, it was used as the Military Academy where many valuable commanders and officers were educated in Atatürk between 1899-1905.
After the Military School was transferred to Ankara in 1936, the building was allocated to various military units as the 1st Army, 3rd Corps, Central Command Headquarters between 1936-1966.
1966, the founder of the Republic of Turkey, Atatürk's also educated in Harbor School building, restored by the historic and architectural character in a manner that is planned to be turned into a military museum in the modern sense.In 1985, the restoration work was completed and on 10 February 1993, the Cultural Museum and Cultural Complex was put into service as the Military Museum and Cultural Site.
